Service & Research
The ZEM sees itself as a competent partner for university and non-university clients in the application of social science methods in the qualitative and quantitative field. The focus of our work is on application orientation: we make recommendations for concrete measures on the basis of empirical findings.
The scientific background of our institution ensures a high standard in the implementation and supervision of scientific studies and evaluations.
This enables us to offer a comprehensive service: The conception of research projects, their planning and methodical implementation and evaluation are just as much a part of our tasks as conducting surveys and advising our clients. In addition to conducting surveys, the ZEM also evaluates existing data material and prepares it in a comprehensible form. This can also result in advice, for example with regard to the derivation of measures.
Internal university projects
The ZEM primarily conducts surveys on behalf of internal university institutions or advises them on the planning, implementation and evaluation of their own surveys. In November 2022, for example, the major satisfaction survey of the university administration was launched, in which all academics and those directly assigned to them, such as secretariats in the faculties, were surveyed. The survey is conducted and evaluated by the Center for Evaluation and Methods. In the run-up to the survey, it was defined which survey content was relevant for which areas. Results relating to specific processes, for example, are made available to the relevant areas in the central university administration so that appropriate measures can be derived from the survey results.
External university projects
The ZEM also conducts surveys on behalf of non-university institutions. These include the annual election for Rector of the Year and the election for Science Minister of the Year. All members of the German University Association can cast their vote online. The ZEM is responsible for the research, the telephone comparison of relevant information with all universities, the conception, implementation and evaluation of the survey.
